I was very apprehensive about getting this game on PC because of all of the very negative reviews about it on amazon. It seemed that not many people could get it to run smoothly, even on a recent top end, high spec machine. So I was quite worried, but decided to take the plunge and buy it anyway and hope for the best!! My son has got it on his ’X-BOX’ but I could never get used to the controls, which prompted me to "give it a go" on PC. The game duly arrived!! I put it into my 4 year old PC; a 1GHz Athlon processor, 256 RAM with a 128MB NVidia GeForce 3 Ti 200 graphics card, expecting it to play like a dog! I downloaded Direct X vers. 9.0 and the latest NVidia grahics drivers from the web and loaded them up. I set all the game parameters at their lowest settings expecting that on these settings I MIGHT get an acceptable frame rate high enough to play; low & behold I did, it played perfectly with no stuttering at all!! So I slowly "racked-up" all the video and audio settings until I had just about every parameter at "full-blast". Still no problems!! I was happy to stop increasing the resolution at 1024-768, because I could just about "see the zits on the Marine’s faces"!!! Brilliant. I did not do any over clocking or other tweaks to my, (lets face it) low end machine except for the downloads previously mentioned. The only time that there appears to be a drop in frame rate is when there are a lot of "aliens" on screen that need to be shot. Even then the game play speed/action is still acceptable, and those "numerous alien" moments are few and far between on Halo anyway - a lot of the time you are literally "on your own", so no real problem. With the graphics and audio settings at their maximum settings the game looks and sounds bloody fantastic. Much better than my sons X-BOX version. As a first person shooter it is very good with a good ’plot line’ to boot. So, try downloading Direct X from the web, rather than using the version bundled in with the game and download the latest versions of your graphics card drivers - and see what happens. You may be lucky like I was, but I dont put this down to luck. I hope this helps anyone out there who would like to play this game on their machine but has yet to be able to!
